George William George

George describes himself as an amateur photographer who travels widely to discover people and places that, through a lens, have the potential to become images with artistic merit. George strives to create photographs that engage the observer, encouraging them to pause and to consider: does the image draw me in; does it inspire questions; does it suggest a story; does it please me? These are the essential characteristics of all visual art but they are particularly important when creating an art image from a photograph. Bringing such characteristics to the forefront of a photograph requires more than simply selecting an appealing location or image composition and applying appropriate camera settings, filters, lens choice etc (though clearly this helps).  Emphasising depth and emotion in an image may also require creative adjustments and enhancements using skilled post processing to build on and to clarify the original intent of the scene without then swamping the composition with clever digital trickery. Such are the principles George applies to the creation of his photographs, to produce artwork that will take you, the viewer, beyond the superficial so as to feel the cold, warmth, recollection, curiosity, joy or even maybe the sadness that were there in the scene when image was originally captured.
