George Squared Photography
George William George
George describes himself as an enthusiastic amateur travel photographer. That probably conjures up an image of a snap happy tourist taking ‘I was here’ reportage photos, but nothing could be further from the reality in relation to Georges’ photography. To him travel is solely the means for the discovery of people and places that, through a lens, have the potential to become images with artistic merit. As with all art the image should engage the observer causing them to linger and to consider: does the image draw me in; does it inspire questions; does it suggest a story; does it please me? To achieve such an image requires more than simply finding a good spot and taking a picture applying the appropriate camera settings, filters, lens choice etc. To derive the full artistic potential of an image creative adjustments and enhancements will inevitably be necessary as can only only be achieved through the application of skilled post processing. This, though not a unique approach to, or philosophy of photography, is what gives Georges’ photographs their appeal.
